We all know Troy Smith will win the Heisman, but is he really the best college football player? In my mind, absolutely not. He has had the hype all year and just didn't make any big mistakes. But had he came in the season as a noname would he be looked at as a great QB? Just look at the talent around him. He didn't have to make many plays. He should give Ted Ginn Jr. and Gonzalez a share of the trophy because they made all the plays. Who do you guys think is the best college football player? Personally, I would have to say McFadden or Slaton.

The Heisman is not for the best team in the nation. It is simply a trophy for the best player in college football. The fact that Ohio St. is undefeated is not a good point for Troy Smith. One player will not win a game, it's a team effort. With your logic Ian Johnson should also be considered as a candidate. I think it should be considered that McFadden played in the toughest defensive conference in the nation.

that is one of the most horrible lines of logic i have heard all month about the WAC
Who do those teams play???
they might as well be Division II-A
you have to take in whom they are playing
with that, i'd also take out Slaton, because, although I will admit he's very talented, the strength of D's help him pump up the numbers
I think Quinn isn't bad, but when you play stanford, navy and you lose to michigan and *USC by 20....
I would vote something like
1. McFadden
2. Smith
3. Quinn
Yes, I'm an SEC homer, and a Gator fan, but McFadden has not only rushed for something like 1,500 yards, but he's done it with another back whos gotten 1000
He's also thrown about 7 balls, and at least the first five were completion
He also has good pass-catching ability, and when he gets into the open field, he's incredibly elusive
if you watch him, he gets into the open field, and then somehow switches into another gear that most RB's don't have
He's also very patient at the hole for a sophmore
without him i see Arkansas at 8-5, maybe 9-3
Quinn is good, but, when you lose to two teams by twenty, one at home, and your scedule includes some service academies and Stanford, thats going to help your stats

What has Troy smith done to show he is not the best player in the country
What has Troy Smith NOT done that shows he is the best in the Nation
to Me he has been the most flawless QB, not making stupid passes, Making big game changing plays, Being consistant
But I think that Slaton should be in there instead of Quinn
Thats sad that Ian Johnson of Bosie St. gets nothing

Troy Smith will win it and should win it. He is the best player on the best team. He is the leader of that team. If he wasn't there they would not be playing for the National Title!!! Does he have the best stats? no. However he is the leader and the direction of that team. He plays with his team first and with his outstanding qualities he should not be questioned about bringing home Ohio States 7th Heisman ( 6th winner)

The Heisman goes to the best player in the NCAA Div.-1. If you agree than I belive Colt Brennan desevers it. Started 10 of 12 games, only games did not start were USC and San Diego State...etched his name as either tying or breaking 11 UH offensive records...led the country in total offense yards (4,455) and touchdowns thrown (35)...his 4,301 yards passing is the eighth-most in WAC history...against New Mexico State (Oct. 15), posted career-high numbers in yards (515), TD's (7) and completions (38)...had nine 300+ yard performances, including four 400+ yard games and a 515-yard performance.

My top 5:
1. Colt Brennan, sure he plays in the WAC, but you cant argue near record #s
2. Slaton. So he fumbled twice on Nat'l TV, but his ARM WAS NUMB!!! Could you hold on to anything with your arm numb. The 43 yard game vs USF killed him though (watch out next year)
3. Troy Smith. Its like Marino vs. Montana with troy and colt. Colt has better stats and doesnt have great talent around him (like Marino) but Troy has the hype and the bling.
4. Brady Quinn. Hes been pretty good you have to admit... but hes 2nd because he plays for overrated Notre Dame. Heck i could beat Army, Air Force, UNC, and Stanford!
5. McFadden Ive never seen him play but i hear hes good.

Brady Quinn. Amazing Quarterback who won 10 games with a mediocre defense.

D-Mac all the way. McFadden's shaping up to be one of the all time greats. You can't say that about any other college player today I don't think.
