It may make things worse in the long run if it masks the real problem...like pain killers...but there are times when you have to have it so it all equals out...

No. Just because it caused minimal harm doesn't mean something (or someone) is making things better. Think of hail. Just because it only caused minimal damage doesn't mean that hail damage made things better.
