loads:
Don't know the title of this song, but the lyrics go
"for now my heart is a private road, no thorough fare ...."
The Verve:
Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this life...
Try to make ends meet , you're a slave to the money then you die.
Well I've never prayed,
But tonight I'm on my knees, yeah.
I need to hear some sounds that recognise the pain in me, yeah.
The Verve
"The Drugs don't work"
'Cause baby, ooh, if heaven calls, I'm coming, too
Just like you said, you leave my life, I'm better off dead
All this talk of getting old
It's getting me down my love
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
This time I'm comin' down

it's always the tune that sends a shiver up my spine and sometimes brings a tear to my eye for no reason at all!

It's got to be Bob Dylan - Desolation Row:
I received your letter yesterday, about the time the doorknob broke. You asked me how I was doing - is that some kind of joke?
All these people that you mention, yes I know them, they're quite lame. I had to rearrange their faces and give them all another name.
Right now I can't read too good, don't send me no more letters, no. Not unless you mail them from Desolation Row...

Randy Crawford's You Might Need Somebody
When somebody reaches for your heart
Open up and let them through
‘Cos everybody needs someone around
Things can tumble down on you
You’ll discover when you look around
You don’t have to be alone
Just one lover is all you need to know
When you’re feeling all alone
If there’s a fire stirring in your heart
And you’re sure it’s strong and right
Keep it burning through the cold and dark
It can warm the lonely nights ohhh
You might need somebody
You might need somebody too

Roger Waters... Watching TV - too long to paste so heres a link:
http://www.singulartists.com/artist_r/roger_waters_lyrics/watching_tv_lyrics.html
Actually, there are so many songs which really get me every time, but this is the one that popped into my head straight away. There are a lot of Roger Waters songs that do this to me though - the whole album is very powerful.

John Martyn - Go Down Easy "you curl around me like a fern in the spring"
Massive Attack - Teardrop. Whatever Liz Fraser is singing, it works for me.
Glen Campbell - Wichita Lineman "and I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time."
and too many others to mention...

Eva Cassidy singing Somewhere over the Rainbow..... Not the same effect when Judy Garland sings it tho, so I guess its her voice and the emotion, rather than the lyrics.
Lyrically, "The first time ever i saw your face" does it for me, the words are gorgeous.
The first time ever i saw your face,
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and empty skies, my love,
To the dark and empty skies.
Stunning.

How can I just let you walk away, just let you leave without a trace when I stand here taking every breath with you.
Your the only one who really knew me at all.
Take a look at me now there's just an empty space there's nothing left here to remind me just the memory of your face etc.
Phill Collins SAD I know!
"Wildamberhoney!" you just got me with another

I agree about Comfortably Numb!
U2's One does it for me.
How about the milwall song? (I can't stand these idiots but their famous chant always makes me giggle:
"No-one loves us.
We don’t care.
We are Milwall."
Imagine actually admitting that you're a Milwall fan?! Scary.
Anyway, back to serious mode. This one hits me like a ton of bricks. I used to cry over it even before my Dad died. I find it hard to listen to still even though he's been dead for 8 years!
Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door
I know that Im a prisoner
To all my father held so dear
I know that Im a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
Im afraid thats all weve got
You say you just dont see it
He says its perfect sense
You just cant get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defence
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
Its too late when we die
To admit we dont see eye to eye
So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
Its the bitterness that lasts
So dont yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you dont give up, and dont give in
You may just be o.k.
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
Its too late when we die
To admit we dont see eye to eye
I wasnt there that morning
When my father passed away
I didnt get to tell him
All the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
Im sure I heard his echo
In my babys new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
Its too late when we die
To admit we dont see eye to eye
