They are both antivirus program. You can use three or four antivirus programs if you have the resources without conflict. You can only use one antivirus program or you will have serious conflict with your system Same for firewall.
http://www.lavasoft.com Out of Sweden. Has been around long before anybody ever thought of spyware.
http://www.grisoft.com AVG antispyware is excellent. You can use both if your have the resources.
I use both plus two others. You usually will find with spyware that three or four are good. One will find spyware missed by the others.
Another excellent software, download their free version as it will usually find spyware that all others miss.

I think you mean Lavasoft's "Ad Aware" and not Adware. Ad Aware comes in 2 version, a free version and a commercial version. The scanners are the same for both but only the commercial version provides real time protection. As to which is better, it is a hard call. AVG Anti-Spyware, previously called Ewido, received a very poor rating from PC Magazine (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1993985,00.asp). It received a score of 2 out of a possible 5. It had both a poor detection and removal rate. The real time protection is only available in the commercial version. As for Ad Aware, PC World Magazine rated it as "Fair" receiving a score of 3 out of 5 (http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,126883/article.html#)
My advice, since you can install more than one antispyware program on your computer, you are better off using both. One program will catch what the other failed to detect. I use both. If I was forced to choose between the 2, I would choose Ad Aware over AVG Anti Spyware. However, you can also use Microsoft's Windows Defender which is by far the best free antispyware program; it provides real time protection that neither of the other 2 do.
Some people who answered are a little confused. Grisoft, which is the parent company of AVG, has both an antivirus program and antispyware program. Their names are so similar that they add to the confusion AVG Antivirus and AVG Anti Spyware.

I think you must meant Ad-Aware not Adware. Anyway both are completely different programs. Lavasoft's Ad-Aware is an anti-ads software. AVG from Grisoft is a Antivirus Scanner. I would suggest that you use Ad-Aware with a good anitivirus scanner like Avira to protect your pc. AVG is ok for most people but it has a low virus detection rate. Avira is much better and it has top notch reviews from reputable websites and mags. Try it here: http://www.free-av.com/

Two separate progs. I think AVG Free is by far the better product as it is frequently updated and seems to find more bugs than Adware. But Spyware Doctor or Spyware Detector are much much better I think - although you do have to pay for them
Good (ad/bug) hunting!

They are two different programs, and they serve two different purposes.
AVG is for virus scanning and protection.
Ad-aware is for blocking pop-ups and other types of spyware
You should be running BOTH on your computer

They do about the same thing, although I suspect that AVG would also do anti-virus work since that is what it is known for.
