Paul Revere, 1735-1818--best known for spreading the alarm of the British march to Concord (he was caught and didn't complete the ride); was sent to Pennsylvania to study the workings of the only powder mill (gunpowder) that existed in the colonies at that time; served as an infantry officer during the Revolution; silversmith, goldsmith, and pioneer in the art of copper plating. He was approximately 83 at the time of his death (from natural causes), which was quite old in an era when the life expectancy was about 45 or so for males

Thomas Jefferson, 1743-1826--primary writer the Declaration of Independence; served in the Virginia House of Delegates and as governor of Virginia during the Revolution; minister to France; ultimately served as President of the US (and responsible for the Louisiana Purchase); instrumental in the founding of the University of Virginia. He was also in his eighties when he died; like Revere, the causes were natural.

George Washington (1732-1799)--began his military career in the French and Indian War and best known as the commander of the Continental Army during the Revolution; first President of the US; established two-term precedent for serving in this office, and also coined the term "Mr. President" as the form of addressing the Chief Executive; died at about the age of 67, at least partly due to the medical practices of the day which advocated the giving of patients strong laxatives or of inducing vomiting, as well as the practice of bloodletting, for almost any illness. I believe he started out with what we'd just call a case of flu nowadays.

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)--like Jefferson, he was a man of many interests and talents; came to prominence in his adopted city of Philadelphia, where he was active in civic and intellectual activities; spent a number of years in England, where he became known for his scientific studies (he was kind of like a rock star of the 18th century, famous on both sides of the Atlantic); served as the colonies' representative in France (he was also very popular with the French) and was instrumental in securing French aid for the Revolution; died at age 84 of natural causes.
