Something that would be secure and equally convenient for both me (living in the UK) and my Penpal.

It's a Christmas present so I would prefer a non-electronic means of payment - something I could gift-wrap.

Could I send a cheque for example? If so would I make it out in Stirling or Euros?

Many thanks
Andrew

Easiest way ,go and get a travel cheque for the value of 100Euros from any bank or post office in his name and post it to his address in France. He goes to the bank and cash the cheque, if he takes a proof of I.D.

Bank to bank transfer is the only way to go unless you are going to put it in his hands! If you send a check, the mail should be registered and on the back of the check you write, "FOR DEPOSIT ONLY" You can go on line and find out the exchange
rate.

Or you can go on line to a store in France, Buy, have it shipped to his address and you pay with your credit card.

Try Amazon.DE, they will ship it to your French address, but in France, the shipping will be cheaper!

The easiest way is to do it electronically. Use Western Union. Safe, fast & easy: http://www.westernunion.com/info/selectCountry.asp

If not, I think you could send a cashier's check, but they would just have to take it to a currency exchange place if the currency is wrong.

It's illegal to send currency through the mail, so that's out. However it is legal to send checks. However, to send one international, you'll have to go to a bank to get an international check...or you can buy a money order from a post office.

Western Union.

BTW, I'd make sure that this money isn't going to a Nigerian scam artist.
