You did not give enough information to help with an answer. I do not know what your BS degree or Master's degree is in, or even what state you live in. THis is all relevent as certifications vary from state to state.
I live in MO. I had a bachelor's in education, and a certification in elementary education and Middle school social studies. (only because i had to take a lot of psychology courses that met requirement for social studies.) After that I picked up 20 more hours in special education, took the special education PRAXIS test ( about $100 ) and then got my certification in MO. When my significant other moved to another state, I had to take that get my transcript re evaluated, and didn't meet their educational criteria. ( I was short 3 hours in special education) even though I had already taught 4 years in MO.
This is my experience.. talk to some one at your State department of education or go to their website and you can get a lot of information about requirements. Sometimes university advisors will take you the long way through a program... and try to make a little more money for the university. THe department of education will help you with any short cuts there may be, especially since there is usually a teacher shortage.

What is your master in? If you have a masters in a totally non education field it would take about two years, If you have a masters in education, then getting certified would go much more quickly and you could probably teach on a probationary basis while you get your certification as there is a shortage of special education teachers.

duh...your masters didnt teach u anything..
Didnt u learn that opinions from random strangers rarely provide specific and accurate info -especially when each certifying agency has a published set of rules/requirements...
