I hear a persistent squealing noise when I first start the car and shift into reverse (to back out of my driveway). After the car is placed in "Drive", the sqealing persists for a little while, then stops. If I drive for an extended period (10 mins. or longer or above 20mph), I don't have that problem anymore. I had the drive belt and catalytic converter (front) replaced 6 mos. ago, but the sqealing didn't start until recently (about a month ago). It's just working my nerves and the noise is enough to wake the dead a block away. Could it be a u-joint issue and if so, where is the joint located? Otherwise, when there is no squealing, the motor runs beautifully.
Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

You had the belt replaced 6 mths. ago, the season change, I'd adjust the belt. Belt heats-up and gains friction/traction.

Agree with the above post that it sounds like an accessory belt that is worn/loose. They sell a spray that stops belt sqeal, this may be able to help you diagnose it and fix it. If its loose though no about of the spray will solve the problem.

You may have a stuck/frozen idler,or tentioner pulley. The sound you've indicated still sound like a belt sqeaking. Will it do it satnding still with the engine revved up? or if you stomp on the gas and let off?
