are you supposed to steer hand over hand? do you get docked down points for not turning that way?
for instance, if i am turning right, i use both hands to turn the wheel to the right then i take off the right & cross over to the left side of the wheel then take off my left & put it on the left side of the wheel. im sorry my question is so confusing. but if anyone could help or give me suggestions that would be great. im taking my test tomorrow. thanks

i understand your question and you should ALWAYS use the "hand over hand" turn during a road test. remember its hand over hand both ways so in the case you mentioned above, after making the turn take your left hand off, cross it to the right side and then use both hand to return the wheel to center.
of course, in the real world, you turn whichever way comes naturally to you.

i dont think it matters "how" you turn (like the technique) i think what matters is how well you drive. if the person testing you sees that you can follow all the rules and you handle your car well on the street, (not swerve, or freak out when your told to turn) then it probably doesnt matter what your technique is. i dont even remember if i held the wheel like that when i tested, but i know i do now.
