The goverment want to double the council tax throughout the UK.
Why do the public stand for all the liberties being taken?
Other examples are,
Increased bills way above inflation.
Pay per mile motoring.
Congestion charges.
Speed cameras.
Putting old people in jail for non-payment of council tax yet murderers walk free.
Taxpayers funding wars and refugees instead of the money working for the communities that earned them.
Bad roads.
Bad NHS.
No houses.

A goverment should do the will of the people, not the other way round.
I want to know why there is no voice of the majority to say "enough"?

It would be great if the British could stand together and make a change, but it will never happen. Any government must be really happy to see that as a nation, we are completely divided. There is so much distrust between the people of the separate countries within the UK and still a lot of racism. It seems to me that although governments talk of the 'union' they actually like the fact that there is a lot of in-fighting in Britain because it means that as long as there is ignorance in the masses, then the country is easier to control. Yes, we had a fuel protest, but that was only based on our own individual selfish motives, not for the good of the country. In reference to the 'Poll Tax' sure it was scrapped after protests, but what most people likely don't know is that it was introduced in Scotland a year earlier and no one payed any attention. Granted, it was hushed up, so England never knew, just as the government would like, otherwise all hell would have broken loose. They made a good deal of money out of Scotland, knowing full well that when they applied it to England they'd have to bin it very quickly. Just looking at some of the posts on here, it's easy to see just why Britain is in the toilet. It's got nothing to do with immigrants or all the other soft targets, it's the British themselves who are to blame. We're all so busy thinking about what we want for ourselves. So keep going on about your neighbours, the people from the next town or country, the immigrants and all the other reasons you know to be true for Britain being such a sh**hole, and you'll just let every government that comes along do exactly what they want. We need to start looking at where the problems really come from....ourselves. We seem to know all about our rights but sod all about our responsibilities.

The only real time I can remember ( and I was very young at the time :P ) when the British people said enough is enough was when Maggie Thatcher tried to introduce Poll tax.

I am so suprised at the British public listening to Brown bleating on about raising taxes in the interest of the environment and not even batting an eyelid. How can this be acceptable to everyone? Raising taxes for environmental concerns is just a scam to fleece even more money out of your pocket.

We should scrap the entire government system and start again...

The reason why all the things you describe are happening here in UK, is because the people do not get out and vote at local or national elections. Turn outs are quite low, esp for locals when about 35 to 45 would be considered quite good. Not good enough to change things. The only borough I know of which did change is up in Hartford's, the people voted for a group of conservatives who said they will get rid of the speed humps in the road - guess what, when they were elected they did just that and more besides. Maybe one day, we'll all wake up before it's too late and get our brains fixed. Only the Celts seem capable of doing this.

I know, I moved out a few months ago with my boyfriend (I'm 18) and all was ok, we couldn't afford a tv licence so just went without a tv, I couldn't afford anymore driving lessons so stopped them, and we were living off tesco value everything (even loo roll it's horrible), and then we got our council tax bill. So I've moved back to my parents! It was almost a grand, that's 4 months rent, how on earth are we meant to afford that? Also the taxes, I might be able to afford the council tax and the tv licence if I weren't paying so much taxes!
I can't see how we'll ever be able to move out, let alone buy a place. I honestly cannot see a way out!

I'd partly blame it on the voting system... it needs to change to proportional representation which would be more of a reflection of the will of the people.

But the other thing is, people will vote for whichever party will appear to save them the most money. And because Labour is screwing up left, right and centre (purposeful pun, btw), I'm hoping to God that they aren't going to be there much longer. It seems that you're getting punished for working hard and earning your own money nowadays because the taxes are excrutiating, but public services don't seem to be getting better.

My only question is - what's the alternative? I can't see the Lib Dems or Tories doing any better... maybe I should emigrate!

Do what me and the Old Man did a year ago, Move to France, they had a revolution here a while ago because they were sick of being told what to do, and the people here are still the same today , if they dont like what the government is doing they all take to the streets peacefully[most of the time ] without fear of retribution, they dont care, European edict 'no somking' ok say the French , and proceed to light up, no dogs in the Supermarket , ok , and they put their poodles in the shopping trolley, it cracks me up, they never obey and they do seem to be a happier people because of it.

The British people should stand up for their rights and re-elect a government that will listen to the needs of the people to get out of Europe in order to run the country efficiently, not having the laws of our land stripped and being told to obey by Brussels. British people need to stand together to be strong but as it is, we are all divided in our views and there is probably not enough British people left in the country! In 10 years, the Labour government have managed to oust the British people from their homeland and replaced them with millions of foreigners. The land of milk and honey for the "majorities" and I'm not talking about the British people!

the reason we have to put up with this is because, the government have betrayed the country, this means that if you make a stand, you will find out that the police are acting as european forces of occupation on europs behalf or on behalf of a traitor government, the only people that could save britain in my oppinion is the millitary intervention. Outher than that, there seems to be no hope. You can count on polititions for absolutly nothing.

An excellent question! Our country has gone to pot. The government will always make promises to get themselves elected and like idiots we fall for it everytime. Once elected they go back on their word so I dont think things will change and taxes will keep going up till no one will be able to feed their families properly anymore and we will end up with ghettos and more murders etc as people fight for a living!

Its problematic the way we are being fleeced by political parties. Have you noticed when One lot introduce a scam or tax the other incoming party does not remove it but add its own? No tax or scam has ever been undone by any new party. A con?
