I have a mercury mountaineer 2000 5.0 and the cheak engine light came on we put a hand held computer on it and the code said EGR flow insuffucent so replaced the EGR valve and the light came back on again you can feel the truck bucking kind of going around 35 to 40 mph could it be a oxygen sencer or what."

This is what happens when you use a code reader. You get a code for an EGR valve and you think you need a new EGR valve. Usually you end up being wrong.

I got a P0700 Transmission Fault code on a Caravan today. Does that mean I have to replace the transmission?

The light in your shift column might be burnt out for that issue, and as far as the check engine light it could be a variety of things. This light is there to warn you of a fault in the cars computer system and sensors. You might have a faulty 02 sensor, map sensor, tps sensor, coolant sensor, low coolant, amp sensor, or any combination. You can go to Autozone, Orielly's, Advance auto parts or just about any of the Auto parts stores and have then check the engine code that has turned on the light, you can also ask them to reset it so the light goes out. Sometimes you might get a bad batch of gas that has a little more moisture in it then normal, this will trigger the 02 sensor, and it may be a one time thing. Once you have the code they can tell you the corresponding parts that would need testing to further find the problem. However if you have the codes reset and then drive it for a day and the light doesn't come back on it's probably one of those fluke issues that just occurred the one time and no need to worry. If the light comes right back on you should take the car to a qualified mechanic and have it serviced.

DAVE B hit it on the head. The DPFE is most likely the problem here. But it could also be one of the two little hoses connected to the bottom of it.
If it is bucking now, and it didn't before, back up a few days and Undo what ever you did, or at least re-check everything.
If you don't find it, Then ask the nice folks at the discount parts store to read you r codes again, then REFER TO A REPAIR MANUAL for the PROPER diagnostic routines. Follow the trouble-trees, and repair the problem, NOT the symptom. You already made that mistake.
If you don't have a repair manual, then go to the library and use what is there. Ask if they subscribe to ALLDATA or Mitchell On-Demand. These are computer based repair resources which include diagnostic trouble trees, illustrations, diagrams, repair information and also report TSBs and recalls.

as you already know,now ,it didnt need an EGR valve.its most likely the egr flow sensor(dpfe or pfe) or the ports or plugged.take to a shop with a good drivability guy who knows how to use his scantool.He can watch the DPFE on the datastream and see if it changes,and or appy vacuum to the EGR valve and see if it kills the engine,this will mean the ports arent plugged.then throw a sensor at it and you prob fix it.

Not sure if its exactly the same problem, but I had that happen to my 99 S-10 - turned out it was something called a 'TCS', or a Throttle Control Sensor. Seemed ok until you tried to accelerate up about 20 mph or so, then it started jerking and acting like it was going to do.

Check that out - otherwise, you may think about the fuel filter - they act pretty much the same way when they're getting clogged.

EGR does not kick in until the engine temp is up. So is this OK? Also when the EGR was replaced was the manifold cleaned of accumulated carbon deposits?

I would look for a vacuum leak.or-your egr passages are blocked

Jverett is right although I think on your vehicle it's call a TPS... Throttle position sensor. It could also be a clogged Catalytic converter.
