While it's potentially possible to carve a ring out of diamond, I don't know anyone that would do it.

Diamonds get part of their value from the size in a coherent volume. Ripping out the middle of a diamond to put a finger in there would probably give jewelcrafters a stroke.

60k to spend on a single ring seems pretty excessive. A nice, 2-carat single-stone will only run about 8-10k. Put whatever kind of ring you want around that and it'll still be under 15k. Save some dough for the wedding, dude.

Like with a hole in the diamond to put your finger in it? Doubt it - I don't think the diamond would keep its value if you cut it that way anyway.

If you're got a big budget for a ring, go for extremely high quality diamonds instead of huge ones. Personally, I'd rather have a carat or two sized flawless diamond than a giant one you could make a ring out of. Better yet, spend half that much & buy her matching diamond earrings as a wedding gift.
