I had this choice once. Got admitted to both schools. Between the two, I'd have chosen UCLA. I liked UCLA's campus better, but I hated Westwood. I got into UCSD Revelle College, and their dorms were awful. Got a bad feeling from the UCSD campus. Oh, AND I hated La Jolla.
Ultimately, I chose UC Berkeley. Very happy with that decision.

UCLA!!! The campus is beautiful, the professors are excellent, and student life is great. Also UCLA is ranked higher than UCSD. I suggest visiting both campuses before making a final decision. However, I graduated from UCLA and it was one of the best times of my life both academically and socially.

UCSD hands down. never went there, but had friends who did. Smaller more comfy classes, a wonderful variety of food choices and living arrangements, costs less to live there, cost less to go there, and oh yes, there are PIRATE SHIPS to escape too and play pirate on in the Harbour;)
That and you do not have to COMMUTE to survive in San Diego.
