My car was towed from my apartment complex a week ago, although it had all permits, registration etc. The management company has now agreed to have the towing company return the vehicle, but is now saying we were cited weeks ago (lie) but still gives us no reason why. I would like to know what legal standing we have regarding missing work, distress and pure inconvience with having to deal with the whole situation.

if the car had all of it's tags, license plate current, why did they have the car towed? was it disabled in any way? was it an eyesore? if none of the afore questions apply then you may have a legal recourse in small claims court, just make sure that you can show the judge the amount of time that was lost and what you had to deal with. the distress and the inconvenience probably won't be awarded because you can't put a price on that but if you had to pay for taxi or bus rides or pay for somebodies gas that can be taken into account. if you win(or not), you better start looking for a new place to live, because i am almost certain they will not re-new you're' lease.

Ask them for a copy of the citation they think they issued. It is possible they issued it and it blew off of your car, or some punk kid stole it off your windshield.
You could try to fix it amicably with the manager and ask them to pay the towing company. If they wont, pay the towers, and be sure to save a reciept. Calculate lost wages, the tow charges and think of an amount you find fair for your own distress. Then go to small claims, keeping a record of all the court costs and with all related documents.
If the judge thinks you are due money, they will award it to you. If they think your request is excessive, they will award you an amount they find to be fair.
