There is no substitute for practice. You can get an instructor to tell you what to do, but they cant move your fingers for you. Ultimately, it is up to you to practice for hours on the same things. A lot of people get bored and give up on scales and the basics. Stick with it and practice until you can run up and down the keys without even thinking about it. It is a lot like many other activities such as riding a bike or skiing. Your muscles have to get used to moving a certain way. You'll develop sort of a "muscle memory" that will facilitate playing the classics or jazz or whatever you wish.

practice, practice but right practice. Every two months buy a self taugh piano book on a new topic. Learn rock style, jazz style, blues style, country style licks, ragtime. Make a list of what you can do and an even bigger list of what you want to do. Learn all scales, even advanced ones, learn tricks listed on below site.

The Beatles started out with 4 chords.

Can you read music? If not then learn to read music first.

If you already know how to read music then offer to teach others who cannot even read sheet music and practice with them: for free.

You should take classes. I play by ear and thought I had it down but after taking the class, I was able to read notes and play keys that I didn't even know.

Try "The virtuoso pianist" by Handel. It's a little boring but it helps alot as long as you actually do the whole thing and if you do it right.

Only one answer to your question.
Practice. Practice makes perfect. Practice even when you don't feel like it. I did this for years and it paid off.
