Mac Arthur, because he was told what to do, did not do it and was relieved. George Marshall had wanted to be rid of him for years. MacArthur accomplished little or nothing that Eisenhower did not. Both were administrators but not really combat Generals. Like it or not, the Military is under civilian control otherwise we would have the same situation as all of these banana republics. As such a man who had been in the service 50 years should have known better. His ego got the best of him.

grant and lee were both dead when truman came into office and ike was a civilian, mac arthur was fired for refusing a direct order in time of war, a bs concept, but it got him canned any way, it also earned hst the ire of every gi in the usa. theres a common opinion that had mac gone from the east and patton from the west, we would not be in the mess we`re in now. also mac would have been a candidate for pres in 1952

The great General of the Army, Douglas MacArthur.

Had Truman listened to him, we would not have been in Vietnam and or many of the world situations since.
