There is a movie that has just come out this holiday season called The Nativity Story. There have been absolutely no trailers for this movie shown on TV in my area. I had not heard about this movie until I was listening to Christian talk radio today. With this movie not being promoted, it will undoubtedly fail in the box office. It is the Christmas season and with a movie out telling the story of Jesus’ birth which is relevant to the REAL meaning of Christmas you would think that there would be advertisements shown. Do you think the media and Hollywood in particular is biased against Christian movies? Why are they not allowing the public to know what is out there so that we can make our own informed decisions of what we want to watch?

In our market, they promoted the movie moderately well. I started seeing promos for this movie around Thanksgiving.

The studios' promotion departments are responsible for buying airtime for commercials and for placing ads on billboards, in newspapers, or on posters. So if you didn't see any ads for this movie it's the studio's fault, not some sort of anti-Christian conspiracy.

Christianity has been the norm for western civilization for the last 1800 years or so up until maybe maybe the last 20 or 30 years when society has been evolving from the "me generation" and faith has decreased so that many folks who call themselves Christian no longer think it's important to go to church or understand anything about God and follow personalities like Oprah or Dr. Phil or whoever (not criticizing those particular celebrities) more than following Christ. Since Christianity is now looked upon by many as kind of "out of fashion" or the "old guard" and because people have had first hand experience with Christianity and blame all the bad things that have happened through history as being the result of the "old guard", then naturally Christianity becomes the target.

I don't think so. Remember a little film called "The Passion of The Christ"? There was so much hype surrounding that flick, and it earned $370 milion at the box office, good enough for 9th of all time.

The problem with most 'Christian' movies is that they aren't well-made or their promotions suck. Hollywood will get behind anything that can make money, no matter where it comes from.

I think society in general is against Christian movies. There have been a few spots about it on HBO, but other than that I've not seen anything either...

I know I'd love to see it, though. Just watching the trailer nearly brought me to tears!

I have seen promos for this movie on nearly every network and cable channel. I watched Christmas at Rockefeller Center on NBC and the commercial for Nativity was on in every single break.

I guess it pretty much depends on who you are and what you watch. They're marketing to families and family-oriented indiviuals so chances are you're going to see the ad alot on channels like ABC Family, Discovery and during family-friendly programs on the networks. You won't see it on MTV, Spike or during an episode of Two and a Half Men.

I have seen a few trailers for that movie, but not too many. I also heard a review of it on NPR, so it's getting a bit of publicity. (Personally, I think it's just Mel Gibson that nobody likes, and after that whole incident last summer, a bad light has been cast.)

Yeah, totally! I mean, just look at how The Passion of the Christ tanked. Total box office bomb.

Unless you glitz it up with a big name or gore, the market for that isn't all too interested. That's why the stuff goes straight to video (or DVD nowadays).
