That irritates me too! Love you has become meaningless and superficial. It's almost like a greeting or something. Or how about this. Why do we say, How are you? when we really don't care or want to know?

Because they are doing it for vanity. Those kind of people usually want something. Their "I Love You", is usually insincere. Personally, it annoys me when people do that when they aren't sincere.

umm...i dunno why people do that. i could never pull off something like that.
but i think they might do so in order to mollify or appease someone with whom they r trapped in a relationship. or the meaner variety of people might do so for selfish purposes- as a means of getting something they want...

To many it mean nothing! It's a passing phrase......"see ya"......"later"......."love ya".......Better just to say "bye", than over use the love word!
