Oh Lord.
I need to buy a guitar, my first one [I feel ever so grown up] but I need advice.
What kind? How much? Where at? All the details, all the advice I can get; I NEED IT.
And it's all my money, so I don't really have the option of getting screwed over by some sales rep with emo-kid hair and a hidden Guitar Hero background. Not that guys with emo-kid cut hair are a bad thing, but quite frankly, they're good at coaxing first-time guitarists into buying some ****** up guitar.
Please help a former air-guitar LEGEND out here.

[I've looked over the web, I'm hoping for an electirc-acoustic six string [nylon]
My budget....errr....the most for me would most likely be $300. And that's if I'd be feeling super ambitious.
I know I oughtta play the guitars in my range, yes, and the best system of seeing if it's a good guitar is if it either sounds like garbage or doesn't.
And no, I'd rather not go with a guitar for "chicks who wanna rock out."
Thanks mucho dudes.

And seriously, I'd rather not just quit on it when I get it. I gave up the keys cause I think I have small hands, maybe I'm just a quitter. Lord knows.
Yesh, the looks are important [duhr, I like what I like]
And how do I know if it's something I'd be able to play? Like how to reach the diferrent frets, diferrent chords. I'VE NEVER PLAYED ONE BEFORE! Well, I've attempted. So how will I know what would be easier for me to play? Any simple things I should do when I'm testing out diferrent guitars?

maybe this step help.... when buying a guitar, the first thing that attracts you is the color. you must like the color! then, the style.( what kind of band player or are you in? ) rock, folk ,country, jass, what ever, etc. coz, if your a rocker or pop player, when it come to fender,,, the choice is strato caster. if your an instrumentalist or in jass music, well you need a guitar which has a more "spacey" sound. fender telecaster is the choice. next to consider is the touch.i know you wont like a guitar with too much tension on the strings! it must be just right to your touch for you to attain the mood and hand speed you need when playing.bar or fret space or distance must be perfect according to your finger length.(you know what i mean) and the frets must be in perfect distance so that it will produce a good whole notes.last is the guitars overall picture. consider all of the above and your investment on your first guitar is a fortune. good luck, happy guitar hunting.(",)

Alright, so since it is your first guitar I would go to a local Guitar Center, or a Music Go Round, (They're probably in the phone book, but if not Guitar Center has a website where you can find a local dealer www.guitarcenter.com). Guitar Center has lots of nice guitars used for very cheap so I would definitly try them out. and for your first guitar I would say don't go over $150. That may seem too little, but you would be surprised with what kind of guitar you can get used for cheap.
good luck, and rock on.

Electric or acoustic, expensive or inexpensive? An acoustic doesn't need any accessories but an electric needs an amp. I like Yamaha acoustics and they have inexpensive, good guitars. Gibson makes great electrics. Epiphone makes good, inexpensive ones. Your best bet is to do a google search and then go to a music store that sells the ones you picked. Don't let them pressure you, tell them you will call them when you need help. Or, if you don't mind used, Try some pawn shops. Usually you will be able to try them out there

I am far from a guitarist, but it will help those who are experienced for you to add:
(1) What style of music do you plan on playing? I am assuming you're talking about an electric guitar? Do you want/need an acoustic? Acoustic/Electric?
(2) How much do you want to spend?
(3) How experienced are you?

(Because these things will all affect the recommendation.

It really is going to depend upon your budget. If you want to spend $1,000, I'd go for a US Fender Strat. Hey, Clapton plays it!

If you're more limited in $, the Mexican Fenders are well made and less than $500 new. You could pick one up on eBay or at Guitar Center or Sam Ash.

I'd suggest either a squire strat (made by fender...and they are a decent guitar for starters)...or go with an epiphone special(made by gibson)....they are reasonably priced and are cool guitars...i bought one as a backup and still have it today (i got it 9 years ago)....also BC Rich has decent starter packages if you want to look into that... www.musiciansfriend.com Id go with a cheaper guitar at first that way if you decide you dont like it....ya didnt lose much....good luck and rock on

I agree. Kirk Hammett is puffed up. i won't manage to declare that he's a drip, yet he's very primary, and you may discover 14 years previous guitarists busking on the underground stations that could play greater efficient than him. additionally in italian yahoo solutions Kirk Hammett is the main puffed up with shrink. Megalomaniac, somebody who can play besides as Kirk Hammet won't manage to be wealthy and elegant. i will play each Paul Gilbert's song, yet people seems to prefere Tokio lodge and different stupid bands. there is not any danger for experienced musicians.

I purchased my first guitar off zzounds.com. It's a pretty good website with great prices and gives you good feedback about the purchasing. But my personal advice... Screw the guitar, buy a bass and be somebody cool.

all right calm down most people arent out to screw you. go to your local guitar shop and play everything in your price range. i would suggest something with humbuckers (the thick pickups les paul etc.) its will sound fuller to you. if you in it for acoustics w/e sounds good buy. but make sure you play everything in your price range before you buy. this way you wont get screwed. remember its what sounds good to you and ONLY you
