Your processor is much beter despite it woks at less ghz. All Core 2 duo are beter than All pentium d. Core 2 duo is a new architeture, is the second generation of pentium d processors; they are faster working at less ghz, specially in games. Core 2 duo is replacing pentium d.

for pentium D2.8 ghz its the intel choice is D101 and D102 where 101 has ddr ram support and 102 has ddr2 support these are inbuilt with some standard graphic accleration so this is the best for core 2 duo E6300 my idea is intel D946 Which is the best for core 2 duo support

Well as with anything in computers it depends on what you want to use it for.

At this time there really isnt a lot of software around that makes 100% use opf the dual processing possibilities, but however in the near future I am reasonably sure that there will be a lot of software that will make use of it.

Look if you are happy with the system you currently have don't go spending $$$$ to buy another system, however if you are not happy with the system you currently have then the one you talk about here is probably a good upgrade as it will/should enable you to move ahead with the new versions of software that are coming out.

One last thing maybe you could even have a look into what the system they are trying to sell you offers by going to a website that does bench tests on systems, that should fill you in on most of the things you are wanting to know. Another idea is to maybe email around to a few places and ask them if they have the same system cheaper cause I am pretty sure you will be able to find it at least $500 cheaper if not more.

I upgraded my P4 system 2.4 GHz to a Core 2 Extreme (2.93GHz).

The amount of time to burn a video using Nero Recode2 went from 27 minutes down to 7 minutes

With P4 my system was locked up during video burning. I couldn't even surf the web. Now I can play games such as Battlefield 1942 while burning video with no hangups

If you are going to do any cpu intensive applications, i.e gaming, video editing, major excel work, etc. it is definitely worth it

If you are just surfing web, email, word, powerpoint, etc - the P4 is good enought

It's better. The Core 2 Duo (at any clock speed) is much better than the no longer made Pentium D.
