When you pick a lock, there are two pieces neccessary:

1- Somehting to put 'side' pressure on the top of the slot. In a lock picking kit, its a tiny strip of metal that has an L bent in it. The short end slips in and then you put a small amount of pressure on it. This is what 'turns' the lock.

2- something VERY thin that slips into the lock, so that you can 'play' with the pins.

Picking a lock is simple, in theory. There are usually 5 pins that move when you slide a key in. If you apply the right amount of pressure and then tap around with something thin, the pins 'stick' partly in, like they'd be sitting if you put a key in. Once all 5 pins 'stick' in the apropriate place, the tumbler turns.

You'll know if you're having any luck whatsoever. Slowly let go of your 'leverage' device, and if you hear a series of clicks, that's how many pins you got to 'stick.'.

The trick is you HAVE to konw which way the key turns to unlock-- to the right or to the left-- and push your leverage that same direction. Otherwise you're not doing anything.

Try using the key you got with the lock. Not your lock? Shame on you.
