I'm due in 2 weeks (38 weeks pregnant), and haven't found a pediatrician for my baby yet!

If I happen to go into labor before I find one, will they give me one at the hospital?

If not, will they at least check my baby to make sure everything is alright with him?

Thank you :)

Which ever pediatrician is on call will be the one attending your baby in the hospital if you haven't chosen one. You can then decide which one you want to be the full time pediatrician after you leave the hospital. Same thing happened to me. I was gonna go with another ped but the one who was on call when my son was born was soo wonderful I ended up choosing him. Congrats and Good Luck!

The doctor on call will take care of your baby. The hospital had a list of pediatricians in the area and said pick one. Luckily, I already picked one before delivering because I wanted to research his background, schooling, etc.

When I was in the hospital having my son, I realized that I hadn't even thought about finding a pediatrician for him. The hospital brought in a pediatrician, she monitored my son, and I was told that if I wished to "keep" her as a pediatrician then it was my choice; I was under no obligation to keep her just because the hospital had provided me with her services following his birth.

If you have not chosen a pediatrician by time you give birth the on call pediatrician will check your baby out.

I did not have a ped before going into labor and ended up liking the on call ped and keep her as my ped.

If you don't have your own pediatrician a staff pediatrician will take charge of your baby's care while the baby in inpatient but you will have to find a pediatrician for the baby's follow up care.

Of course they will. However, your ob-gyn probably has list of pediatricians they recommend. The pediatrician you pick has to have hospital privileges where you are delivering. Don't worry, you can change pediatricians later if you want to spend more time choosing one.

If you're circumcising your son, I highly recommend choosing a doctor to do this (for me it was someone different from our pediatrician). Again, your ob/gyn can give you names. I've heard of widely varying circumcisions and I am very glad we didn't leave it to the "on-call" doctor.

Whomever is on call or working on the neonatal floor will look over your baby if you go into labor before selecting a pediatrician. I, too, didn't have one before my baby was born and asked my OB/GYN for a recommendation. The pediatrician that she recommended is awesome!!

there will be one on staff at the hospital, but you need to have one before you deliver. there is a bunch a paper work involved and the baby will need to go in for a 1 week check-up. and the doctor you want will have to be accepting new patients. all kinds of crap that you would be better off dealing with now.

You will have a pediatrician for 30 days after you have your baby. Then you will need to contact your insurance carrier to advise of whom you would like to be your sons permanente doctor.

So have a worry-fee birth, and CONGRATULATIONS*******
