Rock Lee since he's the best in taijutsu out of all the gennins

The Fourth Hokage. He's the greatest Ninja that ever emerged from the Village Hidden in the Leaves. Plus, he was able to take on the Nine-tailed fox and seal him away. Obviously, if he were to be brought back to life, he'd be a terrible force to be reconed with. After all, he specialized in a number of sealing attacks, and his 'Flying Thunder God' thing makes him move remarkably fast in a short amount of time, even beating Lee's speed, which is an S-rank move. And created the incomplete Rasengan move (which is still incomplete), and A-rank move which Naruto now uses.
So yeah. I would say he's the best. ^^

The most likely...
1.) Jiraiya. Although most people would not accept it, it's the truth. Why?
a. Itachi himself admitted that AT BEST Kisame and Itachi would die with Jiraiya if they battled him directly for Naruto.
b. He is one of the Legendary Sannin. Again, "His title makes the titles of the Akatsuki look like ***"
2.) Tsunade. She's the HOKAGE! Of course, it's either her or Jiraiya. If she wanted to, she could easily poison him and be done with it, but eh... Still, she won't live as long as Jiraiya because of her Recreation Rebirth Technique...
3.) Akatsuki Leader. Huge unknown variable. We'll have to see...
4.) Some Kage we've never heard of.
5.) Fourth Hokage??? Still think Jiraiya's stronger. But then again... I'm only counting the alive people and he was supposedly the Third's best student.
6.) THE KYUUBI!!! Of course, the Fourth Hokage imprisoned him, but that doesn't mean the battle's over...
7.) The other demons above, like, six tails.
NOT:
1.) Possibly Naruto. After he gets insanely strong (like when he's 25 or something.) But definitely not now.
2.) Not Sasuke. Itachi is stronger.
3.) Not Orochimaru. Orochimaru does not have the power to kill Itachi.
4.) Not Itachi. Again, he and Kisame does not have the power to kill Jiraiya.
5.) Not any member of the Akatsuki, other than the leader, because I think Itachi is #2.
6.) Maybe even Sakura. She will surpass the Fifth Hokage, after all... She'll probably be Naruto's greatest rival when they grow up... (or romantically linked... ;;)
Of course, this is just my opinion. As of right now, I'm only relying on facts. Only counting the living present, not the dead.

when it comes to fighting in naruto i have a whole bunch of characters i think had and have the potential to become the best and some that are the best right now
had/have potential to be best-
Naruto- allmost unlimited power, Kimimaro-beastly strong darn near invincible (most amazing blood limit of all), Garra-probably the most potentialy dangerous of characters mainly because his moves turn you into a human smothie.
Current best in story line (manga)-
currently i think that Jiriya must be pretty good to have made it through a fight with the 4 tail kyubi form only coming out with a scar on his chest assuming he didnt want to harm him as Orochimaru had. which i think would make the fight allot harder.
Itachi- If he uses Mangekyu sharingan to it's full potential he could easly distroy any target he wanted to in a single hit... the same could be said about kakashi ... that is true... however since kakashi is not blood inheritant of that eye and only has one sharingan eye that truely dulls the effectiveness of such an attack as well as limits the amount of times he could use it meaning since kakashi could use it twice and practically went into a coma, Itachi could very easly use it much much more often... makeing him apsolutly deadly the one downside is that he is loosing his vision which is why i hold him even to Jiriya

Even though he is evil i have to say Orochimaru. He took on TWO sennin even when his arms were messed up. He managed to kill the third hokage and he was in akatsuki. Hes currently the strongest but i think that soon its gonna be Naruto due to the three year time skip.

naruto. even if he doesn't seem like it now, he will be. Mainly since he can use clones to gain experience from training. So if he took a day off, studied martial arts books or trained, he could kick major ***. so naruto would be the strongest fighter.

1) naruto cause we all know if naruto can learn every move the 4th hokage know in a weeks time then you know he can kick some butt and with the nine tail fox demon help no one can take him.

Sakura of cource! No guy can beat a girl when she's pissed(my brother should know). Not only does she have perfect control of her chakra, she can heal with her medical jutsu, and cruble any thing with the strength she learned from Tsunade. She even beat that puppet master dude from Akatsuki. She is the power in Girl Power.

itachi... hes the best you losers.. LOL. jk... but seriously, ITACHI is da best!! (if you dont know who that is, hes sasukes bigger brother)
well, he has mastered lotsa special jutsus and stuff.. he graduated as top student of the academy when he was 7, learned how 2 use his sharingan at 8 and is really strong.. plus, he mas a very rare type of sharingan, something that starts wiith an M... besides, hes so cool ^_^ ... not 2 mention evil.. LOL
