I was supposed to be paddled once, but some how got out of it. I was in elementary school. I saw many students get swats. I would say that they were probably pretty painful since even the boys would come back into the room crying and rubbing their hind ends.
As far as being helpful, I surely didn't want to get a swat so I straitened up, but I know a boy that was paddled quite often, and it seemed to have no effect.
Paddling in my school district in Illinois stopped when I was in the sixth grade. I graduated in 1996.
As a teacher I sometimes wish I could swat my students or at least threaten them with it. However I would have a very hard time actually doing it, if I were allowed to.

I remember actually leaping out the homestead windows interior the back of the class whilst the nuns back replaced into grew to become then having to objective and sneak back into classification without arousing suspicion. whilst in comparison with my discern's memories of self-discipline at their colleges, we've been taken care of gently. The paddlings have been extra embarrising than painful. To the nun's credit we've been in no way paddled in front of the different pupils. I remember i replaced into despatched to the lads Restroom as quickly as to get a paddling and waited perpetually. the surprising bell rang and that i glanced out the door locate each and all the little ones heading homestead. Sr. Eileen replaced into mortified that i might tell my father and mom that she forgot approximately me after sending me to the bathing room to get paddled. I in no way stated something to them because of fact the school self-discipline replaced into much less harsh than that of my individuals.
