Pit bulls are not mean, you are right, but they have aggresive tendancies when provoked, and that is why they have been known to bite people, or lunge at them. THey usually only are aggresive when someone prodds them, you know, you get annoyed when someone constanly harrases you, and its like that for them. they just finally say i cant take it anymore, and then they respond with violence. That is also why they are used for fighting dogs, its easy to get them angry, and then tey take it out on the dog they are put against. Pit Bulls, if properly brought up and kept, can be kind and caring dogs. they protect their owners very dutifully, and they have been known to sense people with bad intentions and save their owners on numerous occasions. they are faithful and very very handsome dogs. i have a pit bull named Baily, and she is better behaved then my fish, who has bitten my finger(beta). She was raised at a well-organized breeder's facility, and lavished with love, and now she gives all the love back. They truly are the greatest dogs ever, if u put it in perspective

First of all I don't think dogs are mean I think their owners are for how they are treated--I think the hype on Pits are due to the media--they don't report on other breeds that have bitten people I myself was bitten by a Boston terrier and my son by a black lab--one of the best family dogs around --then on another occasion a Chippewa --so its not the breed its that the owners have not gotten through to their pet bad manners or they on the other hand trained them to be mean --I have known other breeds to kill other dogs in fights but for some reason that's not mentioned by the media--the saddest fact is that the pits have a locking jaw and that's to their advantage when they do attack --not their fault that is how God made them --they are bull fighters and going by size they need something to help them don't you think?? Yes its sad and I so wish people would just chill or else take a look at all the breeds that bite --rule of thumb--if it has a mouth it has the potential to bite if it has hooves it has the potential to kick --never take someones word or tell someone that your dog wont bite or your horse wont kick --that day?? they just might --why because they can --

I don't think that pit bulls are the greatest dogs ever, but I do think that dogs tend to reflect the personality of their owners and the people who raise them. Some dogs are naturally more protective/aggressive than others, true, but I think if they are well-socialized and trained, that's not really an issue unless their owner (or the dog himself) is threatened. Personally, I don't want my dogs to be excessively friendly toward strangers, because I WANT them to respond aggressively when they feel threatened. I do think that pit bulls are great dogs for strong people who are able to train them with kindness and without violence, but I do think they're probably more easily trained to fighting than other breeds.

I agree. I used to think Pits were aggresive, mean dogs untill I got my baby Maggie.
She was a Americain Pit bull mix and was the best dog ever. I think it is just depends on the owner, and the way THEY train it. Pits can be lovable, wonderful pets, or they can be aggresive, horrible animals. It's all depending on the owner.

All pit bulls are not mean. They should be illegal everywhere to own though. Pit bulls are very stocky. They can do serious damage to any human more than any other type of domesticated dog. Not all pit bulls are mean, but if they wanted to kill it would be very easy for them to seriously kill a human in just a few seconds.
I think you are very uneducated about pit bulls. If you own a pit bull, be careful and do research. You could be in a lawsuit very soon.

No I think alot of the problem is with some pit bull owners. However, they are very strong very tuff breed when they lose it watch out, just about the only thing that stops a a pitbull is a bullet..I have seen them attack people and other animals... I find poodles really unpredictable but not many people go to E.R. with serious injuries from a poodle

I think it all depends on how they were raised. Pitt bulls like many other dogs need a little more training on not being agresssive. If they are trained good then they will be good dogs, but just like anything else, if there not trained good they wont be good. I think its horrible how in some states they are illegal.

me and my wife have two pits. one is solid white and the other is rust with a white chest and white socks on her front legs. these are awesome dogs. they're very well rounded, great demeanored dogs. only one thing, they have a bad rep. due to careless assholes(these dogs have unbelievable strength and extremely high pain tolerances), these dogs are used for fighting. a money making process which helps out that looser that dropped out of school and now sells drugs, basically for society's sake, he would be better of dead! on the news, when you hear of incidents involving pits, its those dogs that present a bad image on dogs like yours and mine. I will never own any other dog except pit bulls, even if i have to continue lying to my homeowner insurance carrier about my breed of pets.

i have a pit, and she is the nicest dog ive ever known i had one before her, and they never bit me or harmed me. In fact, the only reason we try to keep her away from new people is that she gets too excited and nice and her tail wags so hard it hurts. She's innocent and sweet. The one i had b4 was a male and he was as nice as ever. If you buy a pit pup from a young age and shower them in love, then they will love u 4ever!

How can one argue with someone who uses the English language so beautifully? Yikes.
Any dog can be mean, any dog can have a momentary lapse.
Generalizations are usually wrong, don't you think?
