many people have found that their ipods break after just over a year, just outside the warranty. Most of the time, it's the battery which is only designed to last a year and a few months and it can't be removed. This does seem quite unfair seeing as you pay so much for them. Go for an mp3 player, perhaps a creative because most likely it will have more stuff like radio and microphone recording etc. Just go on the website and see what they've got on offer. There are hundreds of brands of mp3 player and creative is just one. Sony are good if you can cope with the software. Samsung are good too. It depends on what you need from it.

There is technically no difference, an iPod just has the name and is more expensive. It depends on what's your budget, how much songs you want on it, and what features you want. If you just want songs, an MP3 is better for you. If you want songs, videos, and pictures, get an iPod Video. But those things are pretty expensive.

Either an MP3 with about 1 or 2 GB, or an iPod mini are the most practical, in my opinion.

ipod way more expensive than mp3 so if ur really selfless and love ur parents, go mp3. there also easier to deal with. i recommend sansa 4gb. 100-150 $ (while an ipod with 4gb is 200$ ) it also has photos videos and an FM radio. honestly i LOVE mine. :) its thicker than the nano, but still skinny and small.

i would say a good mp3 player is better. they are better built, and have basically the same features, and they cost way less. so you could save something for another gift, by asking for the less expensive one too
