International marriages should be just as successful as any other marriage, BUT there are often problems.

In a normal relationship, a man and woman start dating, get to know each other, then when they get serious they spend a LOT of time together. By the time they decide to get married, they know each other very well.

In an international relationship, the couple may only meet briefly (e.g. for a week or two on holiday). Then they have to keep in touch by email, letter or phone, with perhaps the occasional short holiday together. They get far less quality time together than a local couple, and for that reason they don't know each other so completely by the time they get married. That can be a source of problems.

The other thing that can cause problems is where there's a big difference in culture between the two countries. Culture has a big influence on attitudes to marriage and life in general. The couple has to live in one country or the other, and the partner who has to change countries can find the culture so alien that he/she will become desperately unhappy - so bad that it will destroy the marriage. The foreign partner may not be accepted by the family, or may find the attitudes of the culture unacceptable.

So there are obstacles, but if two people love each other then it can work.

it can be wonderful to learn from each other and expand your life. however with all marriages you must work together as a team. if not then it can lead to hardships.
i have learnt in my international marriage many things such as how to cook Indian and Pakistani food. how to say many bad words in Urdu, and that the more spice the better.
now the bad side of international marriages. one side of the family will not get to see you very often. so who side will it be? my husband hasn't gone of his own will to see his family in 5 years. i have never met them so i do not have there support when i need them and niether does he. we have two daughters that have never met their grandparents and that is hard.
if you love eachother and can work things TOGETHER then all will work out if not it is really hard. good luck best wishes.

It depends on the people. I have known marriages which are rocking and also some which ended in separation. There is nothing strange about it. If you love the person you should go ahead and marry without getting in to a debate.

The good side is that you've married to the person you love more than anyone and traveled the world to find them. The bad side is you have to decide which country to live in, unless you want to go super-duper long distance.

It depends of the cultures involved; not all are compatible. The good things are the mixtures and the learning. But the differences could be good or bad; for example: Food, believes, language, behaves. Once my Mexican friend told me that she was dating an African boy, and he was very nice, but when the family came on vacation he became machist, and he wanted to marry her but his mom had to live with them, she did n´t accept.

it is more of a joining of two individuals-
but marriage has to be a joining of two families-
only those two inviduals have to face all the pain/pleasure in life.
