Well, being into art myself.
Go to a local dollar store and go to the art section. They have drawing pads, pencil crayons, markers, pastels, sketching pencils, you name it. And not expensive.
Pop by Wal-Mart too. They've always got cheap art stuff(that's where I get a lot of mine)
Also, many stores have paints that are on sale or already super cheap! I get a bottle of paint for like $0.89.

You might want to buy him a blank tablet and some hot wheel or car stickers.
My daughter likes the Disney princesses and what I did was gave her some stickers to put on the paper and then she tried to draw the princesses.
I date the pictures when she draws them. I also put the tablet away once she is finished. It is fun to see her progression in drawing.
I hope this helps.

Get him a sketch book and some nice drawing pencils. You can go to Michael's arts and crafts store and get all that for under $20.

for 20 bucks..... the cheapest colored pencils crayons and a huge notepad for him to draw in. Don't get expensive stuff because it really isn't worth it. If he likes to draw it won't matter what the brand he is using honestly.

It's nice to give him a big drawing book (not ruled) Pencils, crayons, eraser, markers paint, colouring book. A nice Painting from a famous painter might work.

I bet he'd love an art set, the ones in a case with all the pens, pencils and crayons, etc. A pad of multi-coloured paper makes it even more fun.
