You divide the quantity by 8 to discover the value of one-eighth, then multiply that amount by three to discover the value of three-eighths.

i thought the best way was to half the first figure half that answer and half again then add the last two answers
eg 800 halved =400 halved =200 halved =100 add last two answers 200+100 =300 or 3/8Th of 800
