That's because some big name gamemakers (Square) are in a tizzy over the high price, worrying that the high price will keep gamers from buying the console, and therefore the games they make. They yelled at Sony and they lowered the yen you'll have to pay for the PS3. Why not in the US, I don't know. Ask Ken Kutaragi.

ps3 games won't go down. sometimes if a games been out for 1 year or so they are cheaper but that really only applies to a few games. not sure about the 40gb ps3.

Sony believes that most japanese customers are fans of Sony or the PS3. Which they are. By giving them a lower price, they'll get more sales. Japanese customers aren't to great a fan of the Xbox 360.

Because usually when things are new, and people starts buying it, and the company decides to lower the price, for example, 100 dollars lower, and more people starts buying, buying, and the company makes more, more, while the people buys more, and the company lowers it more, thats called "merchant, Economy"

the ps3 came out the same time as the wii ps3 are not as technologically advanced as the wii so they are not selling as well
