According to Murphy's Law
The chance of it landing buttered side down is directly proportional to the cost of the carpet.
On more expensive carpet, it will land on the buttered side, on cheap carpet or vinyl/wood, it lands dry side down.

Buttered toast does not always fall butter side down, but if it falls off a plate it will usually flip so that it is buttered side down.

have you seen your floor up-close? The butter wants to so just do 2 pieces of toast and eat one and let the other find out what the floor is like up-close.

Butter creates a extra wieght on one side of the bread. So when it is dropped the heavier(buttered) side flippes over pulled by gravity, hitting the floor.

It doesn't. You tend to have the butter facing upwards, and as it falls it only really has time to flip once. Toast is yummy :)

Mythbusters certainly did a try on that, and that they got here upon that the parable that butter consistently is going down first is misguided. on occasion it does on occasion it would not. Now Crackers with cheese, which would be because of the fact that's heavy on precise.

i watched this problem tackled in national geographic's MAD LABS. it has to do something with height (from where the piece of buttered toast falls), if i remember it correctly.

It just seems like that. You could skip the butter all together and never have the problem again.....
