Because people domesticated wild horses and dogs and other kinds of animals, so they could co-exist w/ humans. Maybe that way there would be less endangered species.

As a wildlife Carer and rescuer, i do not agree with domesticating native species. Humans do enough damage by destroying natural habitats for wildlife as it is.

To domesticate any native animal, would be cruel, as we are not able to exactly imitate their natural environment, their diets, climates etc. A lot of people can barely look after the cats, dogs etc that have been domesticated, just take a look at RSPCA stats and you will see. So why would you want to take something from the wild and domesticate it when people cannot look after what is already domesticated. That would be just cruel to the animal.

Animals become endangered and extinct for numerous reasons. 1) Loss of habitat and envrionment
2) Mother Natures Food Chain
3) Human Interferance.

My role as a wildlife rescuer involves rescuing native animals that get injured through no fault of their own, - hit by cars etc..
rescuing orphaned babies because their mother has been killed by a domesticated cat or hit by a car. Wildlife rescuers are trained to raise orphaned babies in a way that can be as close as possible to the way they would be raised in the wild, they are then released back into the wild at around the same age they would be left by the parent to fend for themselves, the majority of releases do survive and live to breed and keep their species alive.

It's easier to domesticate animals that live in family groups that have a leader. A couple of lucky mutations, and you have an animal that will accept a human as a family member or a leader. Based on that, you could probably have domesticated lions in only a couple of centuries. But, as you know, domestication isn't perfect. Unsupervised dogs will form packs and run around and kill someone's child. Now imagine something the size of a lion doing that.

wild animals should be left wild. If wild animals become pets and are taken out of their natural habitat and there are tons of them as pets but none in the wild...it would still totally mess up the ecosystem. They need to be in their habitat to work as one with the ecosystem. It would not help if there were millions of ex-endangered species in peoples homes! They would end up overpopulated just like dogs and cats, and we would end up having to euthanize them all because they would not be releasable as "wild" animals anymore...and there would be NO habitat left for them anyway. Horrible idea!!

You have a very interesting idea, but I'm afraid it is just not possible to domesticate all wild animals .We simply do not have the 'technology'. Even with tiny feral domestic cats it is not possible to truly domesticate them. And besides, do we really need to dominate every living thing? Maybe we need to control our own overpopulation issues and let the animals be.

dogs and horses dont coexist with humans. they are slaves to humans. animals that are wild should stay wild, they are becoming extinct becase humans are incapable of coexisting with nature. out of the millions of species on earth it always astonishes me how there are so many humans who think so highly of themselves over all other creatures that humans actually have the right to try to run the world

Some animals were meant to be, others, you never will. Tigers. Do you wish to resemble a Big Mac to one of these guys? They never lose that, yanno. Okay then.
