Chances are your windows CD is a bootleg and not bootable.

You can make it bootable by using another computer, a combination of NERO and a guide somewhere on the net called "make bootable windows cd". Try downloading the "Ultimate boot cd" and burning it. Try to boot from that, if that fails then

A) Your drive is bad, or B) Your not really booting from cd and you didnt save the settings in your bios.

Viruses can be nasty creatures but they cannot escape into your hardware ;) There is NO WAY a virus can prevent you from booting into cd. Also you should see "press a key to boot from CD" maybe your not seeing that. if you dont press a key it wont boot to cd.

Ok chris, there are a few ways to go about this, if you can get a floppy to booot, (usually for win95/98/me/2000) then create a bootable floppy and go from there. Some CD-Drives are not bootable compatible and you may have more luck if you can swap in a spare from another machine (make sure it's the same master/slave/csel jumper setting). If not, you may be able to salvage the windows install.

Hit ctrl&alt&del and choose task manager. Kill all the processes being run by your username, iexplore.exe, explorer.exe & anything with over 8mb memory attached. (don't worry, you're not doing anything that rebooting won't cure, you're just killing instances of the programs running at that time). Then click new task, type explorer.exe and click run. You might have a task shell come up from which you can run antivirus. Good luck

restart your computer go into bios set up by pressing either F2 or F10 while the computer is booting and change the setting in there select cd drive to boot first and make sure yuo save the setting on the way out then put the disc in machine turn it off and reboot it with disc in drawer while it is booting keep pressing the delete key and you should see a message press any key to boot off cd when it starts do not turn off half way through undr any circumstances good luck with this

You need to hit del at startup and choose the booting order. In this case, you need to change the booting sequence to CD/DVD drive as the primary booting source

it must be a pandemic;what anti-virus did you employ? Did you test the record and the place did you acquire it from? whether that's a pandemic then i won't grant help to yet all i will say is that the two taking it to a professional or reseting it are in all likelihood the only procedures. you could properly be waiting to extract data out of your HDD. have you ever tried restarting it or does it purely immediately turn off?

its because you have not selected the right boot order in the bios set up or you are using a disk that is a copy and not boot able or is corrupt

Go to safe mode with networking. Download Ad-Aware, Spy-bot Search & Destroy, AVG Antivirus, and Windows Defender. All are free and work reasonably well. Update them and run them while in safe mode.
