Karen was recovering from an eating disorder and was gaining weight. The weight put more strain on her already damaged heart. She died on February 8, 1983 from cardiac arrest.

Karen actually died from a heart attack caused by years of Anorexia. She had been recovered from her anorexia for some time at her death, but the damage had already been done to her heart.

No she was not "husky" voiced , her voice was pretty and pure actually. She was also a drummer , and her and her brother wrote some great classic songs. I don't have any Carpenters collection , just from what i heard growing up with radio..

Dirt nap ... she died from complications caused by anorexia. A heart attack actually killed her. She literally withered away to nothing more than skin and bones ... real shame!

She was anorexic. I believe her heart gave out one day from having the disorder for so long that it weakened her muscles.
