I am not so sure. This site may be one of the best but persons looking for friends in the Internet have had bad experiences.
Joining a club with persons having interests similar to yours may be a better option. There are many occasions to make friends. By means of other of your friends, your relatives, in the church, when you are traveling, in school or university, in the place where you work in your vicinity, in place the where you usually buy your newspaper or magazines, the retail stores. The opportunities are are limitless. Perhaps you have to loose your fears. Use your imagination.

No...the internet is not a way to find friends. Get out of the house and meet real people.

Not really, it mainly serves the purpose of giving advice and criticism, but i think you will enjoy your stay.
Just make your presence be known.
