It's the same reason that people write rude messages on subway cars or bathroom stalls or any other location: they like to get a rise out of others. Perhaps it makes them feel powerful somehow if they demonstrate the ability to affect others. Perhaps it's a cry for attention. Whatever the reason, it's juvenile & don't let it get to you. Not being affected by it is the ultimate comeback.

they have control issues. its much easier for them to hide behind a computer screen. i would even venture to say that these kinds of people would never think to act like that in real life.

I think people do it because they can't express themselves in real life. They want to tell their boss or their wife or mother-in-law to go to hell, but since they can't, they release their anger over the net, where no one knows them. It's like an escape valve.
