Since 1995, Upper Deck doesn't use "Avalanche" on the fronts and backs of their cards. They also do this with the Hurricanes (using Carolina) and Predators (using Nashville). They used to do it with the Coyotes, Wild, and Thrashers for a while. I was wondering why they did this.

My guess is that it might have to do with some kind of legal issue. Perhaps the contract that Upper Deck has with the NHL or NHLPA prevents them from using Avalanche, Predators, and Hurricanes.
