I don't want to get another Apple power adapter - it's designed very badly, and it's expensive. I'm looking for a replacement one that has been tried and true. Any suggestions?

I would be very wery of non apple products. If you use non apple products, you run the risk of voiding warenties, and running into over heating problems. Unless the off brand has been approved by apple, I would go with genuine apple products.

Macsales has some.

Amazon also sells some. Do a search for powerbook adapters.
