can you play the sims deluxe edition without having any other SIMS 1 or 2 or anything, or does it work like an expansion pack where you need one of those to play?
in any case, for some reason sims deluxe edition is a lot cheaper, so i was wondering......... im gonna get it as a x-mas present and the person doesnt have any other original SIMS games.

i know you cant play an expansion pack without the game. i want to know can you play the deluxe version without any other game version. (sorry if i wasnt clear)

You can play sims deluxe by its self, without any other sims version. Sims deluxe is basically the first sims, just a few modifications and debugs.
To answer your question, yes you can buy it fro some one who has no other sims games. If that person wants to buy any sim 1 expansions that person can do so, and they will still be compatiable with the deluxe.

The sims deluxe edition is the original sims game and the living large expansion together. You can play it by itself.

Yes you can get the delux edition previouse versions are not needed because there already in the delux edition, just think of it as all the sims put together in one great peack :-) Oh and the delux edition is not a expansion pack.

when you buy the sims deluxe edition you do not need the regular sims game to play it i brought the game and i didnt have the original sims and it works good

The deluxe edition already includes everything you need to play the game. You won't have any problems with it.

You do need to have the actual game...b/c what those packs are is add ons (so to say) off of the original game.. it gives you items and opportunities the regular game does not... and that is why those expansion packs are cheaper (b/c they are NOT the game)!
