1. Here we call it primary school and it starts in january the year your kid turns 7. Primary school consists of 6 years of education and secondary school 4 or 5 years depending on your child's grades. I know that most expatriates prefer to send their kids to international schools because of the high stress level in singapore's education system but I do know of many foreign students in local schools so it should be possible. Local schools teach all subjects in English as that's our 1st language. All students would usually take their mother tongue as a second language ie. mandarin for chinese, tamil for indians etc.

2. It's hard to say if things are considered expensive here since i'm not sure where u are from. Singapore is known for its cheap and vast array of electronic goods. Compared to the US or UK, most things should be considered cheaper but is more expensive compared to the rest of Asia not including Japan.

3. What u definitely do not need to bring is heavy winter clothings as u really have no need for them here. Singapore offers a huge selection of everything u possibly need at a relatively reasonable price so it is really not necessary to bring any thing troublesome over apart from things you want to remind u of your home country.

Well, everything u might have heard about Singapore is mostly true such as it being very clean and is really a very safe place to live compared to most other countries. If u need any other info feel free to email me at jning9@hotmail.com.

Lastly, welcome to Singapore! I'm sure u'll enjoy your time here.

1. Elementary school is called primary school in Singapore. If your kid is 7-12, they will be in primary school. It starts in January and lasts till December. Your kids may not be able to adjust to the school system in Singapore, unless they are quite smart. Even then, it is quite stressful. I moved to the US at a young age and got used to the school system in the US. I moved back and found it much harder to adjust back. So your kids will probably be enrolled in an international school. If your kids do attend local school, do not panic, as it is all taught in English. Except for the second language class. For the second language class, Chinese students get taught in Chinese, Malay gets taught to Malay students and Tamil is taught to Indian students.

2. I think it's all in equal value. I think it may be a small bit cheaper, but that's just me.

3. Singapore's right next to the equator. Common sense should tell you that any winter wear or long sleeves aren't a great idea. You'll probably be wearing t-shirts and shorts most of the time. Get a fan, you'll need one when the heat knocks you. My sister has a boyfriend, he traveled with us to Singapore for a vacation, and as soon as he got off the plane, he felt the heat too. But however, you will want to wear some long sleeves on the plane. Gets really cold. But once you're at the place you're staying, you might want some shirts and shorts on or something.

Anyway, that's about it.
