The spread of Hellenistic culture was one of the most important factors to shape the world the way it is today, western culture as much as asian cultures. Greek was the first world language, the Hellenistic was the first empire to include so much of the known world. The results of that were the great interaction between cultures from India to Egypt and Italy, the spreading and growing of philosophy, science etc. During the hellenistic period all important works of antiquity were registered (unfortunatelly, not all were saved after the fire in Alexandrias library). The romans "inherited" the hellenistic empire and that was of great importance for todays western culture. The structure of hellenistic-roman world allowed christianity to spread later, based on the greek translation of the new testament (the translation of the seventy). Thats all i can think of now, there are many ways in wich the hellenistic period was important in the shaping of the future. For better or for worse, allthough i personally think its been for the better mostly.

The Hellenistic culture was greatly influenced by the Hellenic philosophy, except it was more "practical", brutal and bold!
It was at a level that the "wise", cultivated and rich barbarians could understand and cope with!
Thus, the knowledge, sciences, arts, etc., were spread around and all nations, from India to Africa, to Europe, developed systems that improved the living standards, based on some more judicial levels!
