Today i was at costcutters to buy a drink , it said all can drinks 59p, so i took one up to the counter and said how much he said 65p. So i put the down down, then walked out side. Then i saw i special offer for biscuits, so i run in and said to my friend do u want the special offer. Then the man said ot, get out for no reson Eariler on the man said to another 1 of my friend that he knows that i have stoled something, even though i didn't. Could this be discrimation: The Man looks Mexican and i am Black, Also he only banned me: and none of the friends i was with was black they were other races I feel singled out Do i have any rights to go in the shop, wot should i do

when you picked up the drink and asked what price it was you should have questioned the different price he gave you, it may have been a genuine mistake, trouble is if you just plonked the drink down and walked out he may have thought you were just causing trouble - try having a quiet word with this person in a non threatening manner tell him why you felt angry - see what he says back and also ask why he told a friend of yours that you stole from him (try and stay calm and in control, if he looses it then walk away - its his loss.)

It sounds like you were discriminated against either because you are black or because he thought your behaviour with the canned drink was suspicious. To be fair, out of context, it could seem odd. If you pointed out that that was not the listed price and he was still saying it was 65p and then you walked out he would know what was going on but what you describe doesn't mention that. From a shop keepers perspective it very much looks like the tactics of a shoplifter. It isn't right of him to accuse based purely on suspicion but this is his lively hood.

If you really think it is worth the hassle then contact the cost cutters Head Office to complain... If not get over it, shop elsewhere, get friends to get stuff for you from there and stay clear for a few months....try again in a while as I am sure he will have forgotten about you by February!

Hi Alex,

It's not clear where in the world this occurred. If it was in the USA, then I do not know the law appertaining to race discrimination.

If you were in the UK and this behaviour was witnessed by your friends I would reccommend a report to the Race Relations Board. The assistant could be prosecuted.

You have no rights, the shopkeeper does not have to sell items to you if they are priced wrong,

The worrying thing is why do Black people immediately jump on the racist bandwagon as soon as they have a problem.
Get the chip of your shoulder and shop somewhere else.

if you had said, hey its says here you have a special offer. it would have made things different, but you said nothing to him you just put the can down.Making it look like you were using the can as an excuse to be in the shop making a paranoid shopkeeper think you had nicked something.just put it down to experiance and move on.

well im not mexican, but i am hispanic, and not a lot of hispanics are raascist, so i dont think its cuz your black, it could b a mistake, ive done that b4, i thought sum1 stole sumthing but it turned out i was wrong,

to me it seems as tho you are using stereotypes to ease the pain.
the stereotype is that black people are thieves, not always true, but too me, it looks like you are using it against him, i dont really have an answer just get to the bottom of this.

good luck.

Oh geez, what a stupid thing to sue over!! And oh of course it was because you are black what else could it be? Everytime something happens to one of you it's because you are black. It's never your fault, it's always someone elses! It could never be he was just in a bad mood, having a bad day or didn't like that you didn't make a purchase, it couldn't be ANYTHING but that you are black! Get real and get a life will ya?

Yes that is descrimination. Does he have proof that you stole something? And if he thinks that you stole something, why didn't he call the cops while you were there? Obviously he does not want your money. I would not even shop there again. He sounds like a racist.

Call the manager and tell him what happened and that you find this totally unacceptable behavior. Unless this person actually caught you stealing he has not right to accuse you of anything. That is wrong! Good luck!

If you feel strongly about it don't go in there. Why should you give him your money ! don't let him get rich, don't forget one bad customer will tell 10 other people and friends, get everyone to stop going in there.
