I'm trying to catch up on research and the more I read on the Iraq Study Group, the more I see we are actually going to get into more of a mess.

They are wanting to basically get into bed with Iran and Syria now in their 'solution'.

Is it just me or is it not obvious that the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds are screaming out that they need and want to be divided... that they have no desire to live side by side to each other?

Why not put our efforts into deriving separate borders... 3 independent nations?

What's the problem with this idea? Why isn't it being taken serious? Or is it just too easy?

Beach bum, what ever decision WE make will have to be done by the Iraqi people. We had no business invading their country in the first place and have a direct responsibility for the killing that is going on every day. However we can not fix it as the Iraqi people will never accept any solution that we come up with and they will have to come up with one on their own. We are and always have been in a no win situation in Iraq. A quagmire such as Vietnam. I am sure that we need to pull back and let them fight it out for themselves and if they decide on a king or a dictator so be it. It is after all, bottom line their decision. Their fate is in their hands. I am sure that division of their country would not set very well with them.

So let me see you'll make some arbitrary lines on a map and that solves the problem. You'll liberals are so intelligent. The Shiites have been trying to kill the Sunnis for decades and both have been trying to kill the Kurds. But your imaginary lines are gonna stop all that. And how long until the the Iranians just swoop right in take them all over grabbing more land, resources and people to spread their Wahabiism. Thats brilliant. Why aren't you runnin this country again. Go ahead report me, thats all your good at.

Because it is impossible to have a fair division of natural resources, and that would leave at least one group poor while the others get rich, Turkey would not stand for a Kurdish state, and all you could possibly accomplish would be all out Civil War, instead of some insurgents and Al Queda killing people. In just a short period of time you will see a change back to a military strategy instead of a political NIGHTMARE!!

They ~did~ stay in peace (nicely, a minimum of extra non violent than the present situation)...for a protracted time previously we've been given in contact. Sounds severe high quality, yet what are you going to do approximately Baghdad? the two Shi'a and Sunni stay there...and why might sects in organic source depleted factors conform to this? there is not any basic answer to the mess in Iraq. that's chaos and it will in straightforward terms worsen. that's no longer pessism - that's in basic terms realism per historical past and reality.

We aren't dividing anyone as we have lost control of Iraq!

It has been explored, but that is just what we need, 3 nations going at each other rather than an internal conflict that will be settled one way or another!

One thing is for sure. We aren't going to be the final arbiter's of what Iraq's identity emerges as! I suspect you will get someone worse than Saddam! Funny, he didn't even hate Americans, but the Iraqi's do now!

Iraq was an artifically created nation, with lines drawn by the UK. For some reason, there's a huge taboo about changing these lines, although it was apparently okay to do that to Yugoslavia. The proper term is a "double standard."

because that will just end up causing another Israel. they dont want to be on the same planet with each other. Its not about land its about their beliefs. I cant remember which one it is but one of these groups believes that some of the earlier followers of Mohammed were false and liars. this is then saying that side is false. then in reverse that the other side doesn't follow those leaders means they are denying their faith. there is no separation they want death.
