Kareena Kapoor, nicknamed "Bebo" (born September 21, 1980 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India) is currently one of the most successful Bollywood actresses due to the variation of roles she has done in her career[1].

Family background
Main article: Kapoor Family

Kareena Kapoor belongs to the most influential film dynasty in Bollywood cinema. Her family includes the likes of her grandfather, Raj Kapoor and her great grandfather, Prithviraj Kapoor. She is the daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita, who had divorced when she was still young. Rishi Kapoor is one of her uncles. Her sister, Karisma Kapoor, is also an actress. Her other relatives include maternal aunt Sadhana, and cousins Shivani Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Nikhil Nanda who is currently married to Shweta Bachchan-Nanda who is the daughter of Amitabh Bachchan.

Early life
When she was younger she would frequently accompany her sister to film shoots. Though born into a film family, Kareena at first wanted to become a lawyer. She attended Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai and then went to Welham Girl's Boarding School in Dehradun. She returned to Mumbai to attend Mithibai College where she did her commerce.

She went to Harvard for summer school and while she was there she took a course in microcomputers and information technology. While doing her summer school course at Harvard, she was approached to complete her higher studies here, as many professors were impressed by her intelligence and confidence. Set on pursuing an acting career, she did a few regular law and business courses at Harvard and then went back to her initial plan of joining the film industry[2]. She also attended the Kishore Namit Kapoor acting school.

Career
Kareena's intended debut was supposed to be opposite Hrithik Roshan in Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai but she left the film. She made her debut in J P Dutta’s Refugee in 2000 with Abhishek Bachchan and won critical acclaim for portraying the role of a Pakistani girl. Her next movie was Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai (2001), which proved to be commercially successful, but it was films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Asoka (2001) that brought her critical acclaim along with commercial success.

Kapoor was in great demand after these successes as she was signed on for more movies. The directors began to cash in the success of her role "Poo" from the film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, but eventually audiences got bored of it and all her films flopped at the box office. Her career seemed to be stalled. Then the critical success of the 2004 film Chameli, where she played the role of a prostitute made critics take notice of her once again[3]. Kapoor later won the Filmfare Special Performance Award for the movie.

Films like Yuva and Dev followed for her in the year of 2004. Her performances in both were appreciated[4] [5], especially in Dev where she received the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance. Her other films in 2004 included Aitraaz, which was a moderate success and Hulchul, which was a commercial success[6].

2006 began with films like 36 China Town and Chup Chup Ke opposite Shahid Kapoor, which were both moderately successful[7]. Her performance in the critically-acclaimed adaptation of William Shakespeare's Othello, Omkara received much acclaim from audiences, as well as the critics[8].

Kapoor has participated in numerous world tours throughout the years, but her most successful one was in May 2006, in which she performed alongside Salman Khan, Zayed Khan, John Abraham, Shahid Kapoor, Esha Deol and Mallika Sherawat[9].

Kareena's biggest success in 2006 has been in Farhan Akhtar's Don - The Chase Begins Again, which has done extremely well at the box office[10]. In the film, she plays the role of Kamini, originally played by the legendary item girl, Helen. Her performance as well as her item number received good reviews[11].

Personal Life
Kareena is currently dating Shahid Kapoor, the son of veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor[12].

She is very attached to her niece Samaira. [13].

Controversies
In 2005 and 2006 Kareena was in the news for a MMS clip. The first one had a look alike of her changing and revealing her body in front of a camera and the second one was her kiss with her boyfriend Shahid Kapoor[14].

Karisma Kapoor, nicknamed "Lolo" (born 25 June 1974 in Mumbai, India) is a popular Indian actress who has worked in many sucessful Bollywood movies.

Background
Main article: Kapoor Family

She was born on June 25, 1974 to Randhir Kapoor, an actor popular during the 1970s and 80s, and actress Babita. Her sister is actress Kareena Kapoor. She studied at the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai until grade six. Her grandfather is actor Raj Kapoor.

Film career
Karisma made her debut in the 1991 movie Prem Qaidi and has since then acted in more than sixty-five movies. Some of her films have been hits; some have done less well. She had her first hit with the film Anari (1993) and followed up with an appearance in a cult-favorite comedy, Andaz apna apna (1994).

Karisma played the female lead in Raja Hindustani (1996) also starring Aamir Khan. The movie was a major hit and she won her first Filmfare Award as Best Actress. The next year, she won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for Dil To Pagal Hai (1997) also starring Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit.

She achieved critical acclaim too after her commercial success at the box office. Zubeidaa (2001) garnered her the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance. She again won a Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance in Fiza (2000). Her performance in Shakti: The Power (2002) was highly appreciated and she was nominated for Best Actress at every single award ceremony but lost mostly to Aishwarya Rai for Devdas. The actress has appeared opposite Govinda in many films. The most popular of these have been Raja Babu (1994), Dulaara (1994), Coolie No. 1 (1995), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), Hero No. 1 (1997) and Haseena Maan Jaayegi (1999).

She temporarily left the industry after her marriage. Her movie Mere Jeevan Saathi was released in 2006, and marked her comeback.

Personal life
On 29 September 2003, she married industrialist Sanjay Kapoor, CEO of Sixt India, according to Sikh marriage rites [1]. The couple has one daughter named Samaira, who was born on 11 March 2005. They have had some widely publicized marital problems, but have since reconciled. [2]

Prior to her marriage to Sanjay Kapoor, she was engaged to Abhishek Bachchan, the scion of the Bachchan family. They met on the sets of Refugee in 1999 when Karisma was helping out her younger sister, Kareena with her debut film. The couple also worked in the movie Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya (2002).

Trivia
Balancing commercial crowd-pleasers and art-house dramas, Kapoor has garnered four Filmfare Awards to date.
In 1998, the actress took a year long break and had no film releases.
She opted to do a television mini-series, Karishma: A Miracle of Destiny at a time when she was still in demand in the film market.
