I don't get it. I hear all the time that blacks don't consider themselves as african but just "black" and indian. Even if a person has .00009 percent indian blood they consider themselves as indian and black but not african.

HUH?????

Who are you talking about. Dark Indians from India???????? Why would they be African. Just because you have dark skin does not mean you are a *****. Just because you have pale skin does not make you a caucasian.

Indians are Asian from the Asian continent. Africans come from the continent of Africa and not all tribes are dark, some are pale, some yellow, some brown, some maroon, and some blue-black.

For Rebel gal: There are Ethnic Indians from Africa. The British during the late 1800's brought a bunch of Indians from India to Uganda to build the railroads there when the British Empire ruled that part of Africa. The Indians were told that they would be shipped back home once the railroad was finish. Of course the British lied and the Indians were force to settle there. During the time they were there they intermarried with the local population, producing some interesting children, because the Indians maintain their unique Indian ethnic heritage, separate from the surrounding local people, they still identify themselves as Indians

As for the answer to the question posed...it's an AMERCIAN thing to always want to be some other heritage then what you are..example White Americans are always saying that they 60% of this and 40% of that...when in reality we are all
so mixed cultural & physically that we bear little resemblance to our ancestor original ethinc group.....Which personally I think is a good thing..because the good old days wasn't that damm good

I don't consider myself African American and it has nothing to do with being ashamed of Africa. A true African American in my opinion would be someone who was born in Africa and came to America and became a citizen. I prefer black or Afro-American. I recognize my African ancestry but at the same time the African in my blood and in many black people in America has been mixed with so much we are not pure Africans anyway. For instance my great grandmother was native american and my great grandfather was irish, i'm sure if most black people in america went back they would find some mixing in there.

You have people with African Ancestry all over the world, do black people in other countries define themselves as African Puerto Rican, African Mexican, African Cuban or African French... I don't hear that much. I don't even know if classifications like that is even necessary, if you are born in Amercia then you are American.

I know im african, because im african-american. So duh i have their ancestry and even because im african-american i know! All of us have at least a piece of something. Lots of blacks dont like to say they are part african because according to the media and racist people africans are poor, stink, and ugly. Which makes some blacks deny that they are of any relations to an african. Thats why most say "Oh im cherokee, indian and welsh" not african. When i know.

I am afican-american black people in this country are truly not proud of bein associated with africa other wise they wouldnt try and claim other stuff like tiger woods. and it is becaue africa is looked down upon, if africa was seen how europe is we would have all kinds of people talkin about how they great grandad was black and **** like that. i say i am black whether africa would accept me or not i actually looked mix but i am truly proud of bein BLACK. i mean look at nicole richie she look white but is actually half black n white and she said she just tells people she is black, now real black people ought to be ashamed of they self tryin to be somethin they not take a look out there not to sound racist but people are tryin to be like us if u know what i mean!!!! but of cource if was was back in the day nicole probably would have tried to pass as white!!!

and when u say indian i know u mean native americans so be a lil more specific next time indians are actually from india which is asia!!!!

Your question doesn't make much sense to me. You sound really young and/or uneducated. I am West Indian. My background includes Jamaica, East India, Africa, and Europe. I will not deny any aspect of my background just to please you or people like you. I love who I am, and all of who I am.
