Depends on the context. If it's at a banquet or similar function, be sure to thank those who put the function together. If it's at a funeral, state the obvious i.e., "We are gathered here today to pay homage to a truly wonderful person..." If you are accepting an Academy Award, be sure to thank the Academy & then start listing others who made the movie possible.

Everything that would make an introduction "excellent" hinges on the context. If you could elaborate on the context, I'm sure we could be more helpful.

In general, a good way to get an audience's attention at the beginning is to say something unexpected, but you have to be sure it's something that ties directly into the topic you're covering (you'll want to refer back to your introduction at the end of the speech to demonstrate this.) An anecdote from your own life, or a joke, or a famous quote, *followed by* how that snipet applies to the topic of the speech, are decent ways to get a speech going.

Are you asking for an example?
I always liked this one:
"When I was preparing for this speech, I researched what the elements of a good speech are. George Burns said, 'A good speech has an enchanting beginning, a powerful conclusion, and they're as close together as possible."
Try to be funny.

Your listeners want to believe that you have their best interests in mind. In the case of an informative speech, it is enough to assure them that this will be an interesting speech and that you, yourself, are enthusiastic about the topic.

Example :
I hope you'll enjoy hearing about the heroism of the Underground Railroad as much as I have enjoyed preparing for this speech

THE PAPARAZZI

Introduction
Attention Device: Imagine that you are going through your regular routine every morning while getting ready for work. As you walk out your door to get in your car, your eyes begin to hurt, and you see little flashes all around you. Now imagine that everywhere you go you see those annoying little flashes.

Credibility: Through the research I have done on the Internet, I have begun to understand how a celebrity feels while being followed by the paparazzi.

Preview Statement: Today we will talk about the extreme measures of the paparazzi, different ways the paparazzi's job effects celebrities, and how the paparazzi's job effects the public.

pictures of figures in the public eye.

paparazzi such as movies or television programs they are in, charity events, and
book signings.

as well.
