Does it have something to do with takeing the moral high ground or hypocrisy?

To the last poster: it depends on where the person was coming from when they delivered it. It always could have to do with hypocrisy or double standards, it could mean various things.

"Oh thats rich" is another euphemism for saying you have nerve for saying whatever it is you said!

The person is being sarcastic. The statement means that something is very funny and laughable. It has nothing to do with moral high ground or hypocrisy.

The only person that I know who uses this expression in everyday conversation is my Grandma. She uses this phrase when she is displeased with someone or something. For example when she thought the car dealership overcharged her for services rendered, she said, "Can you believe they charged me $500, that was rich!."

No-- often people who use that expression seem to be a bit more intelligent than the average bear-- it's sort of like saying, "oh, RIGHT!"

If its used in context with anything dealing in food, usally
high in calories & fattening.
