I had this same problem, only a couple of weeks ago...there is a medication called primulut, it stops the bleeding, but you do need a prescription from the doctor so i suggest she just wait for him, stay off her feet, drink plenty of fluids, she will be ok, its another one of those things that us women have to endure.

this link and related questions from this page answer a lot of questions about abnormal bleeding.

Unless your sister has been bleeding this heavy for more than 24 there should be no immediate concern. If your sister is in her teens still, fluctuations in periods are very common. Try not to worry, odds are in her favor. A doctor may be able to help reduce bleeding during future periods. I also saw a recommendation for ibuprofen. It may help to slow down the flow and also ease any discomfort she may be feeling. Be careful of dosing though and mixing it with any other drugs she might have already taken/

Have her try birth control pills, they will regulate her period and make them lighter/ more manageable. Ask the doctor and s/he will know which one is right for her. They might not work on the first month but things should really improve. She could try seasonale, where she gets her period everythree months. hope this helped.

just wait for the doctor to call back. if she already called a doctor and left a message with him, he should know if this is a dire emergency or not. but if you feel like it's getting worse, i would go to the emergency room.

Go to emergency or urgent care immediately. That is not normal. She could be hemorrhaging. Don't wait for a doctor. GO hon, Go!
