While pregnant with my son i craved beef-any form i could get and with my daughter i craved Cole slaw and dough nut together with Butterscotch milk shakes. Sometimes it can mean you are missing something other times it just means that's what sounds good. Your body is going through chemical Changes and sends different messages to your brain than normal. Congrats and good luck

I would say NOT. Some women crave sweets, that doesn't mean they're low in sugar!!!! Or crave salty things, fries, chips, there's no nutritional value in those things anyways, so when you're craving junk it's just a craving, not a need for vitamins. A lot of women say they don't eat enough veggies and fruits while pregnant, instead they eat fast food and crap, if they were needing nutrients for veggies then they would crave the fruits and veggies they were depriving themselves of. And some women, though rare have weird cravings for crazy stuff like charcoal, and clay,......don't know what nutritional value those have. So, women that say they're craving something because they're "lacking" that in there diet don't really have any education on nutrition! And that's CRAZY to say the baby wants to eat something and actually makes YOU crave it!!!!! Give me a break, and take responsibility for what you're putting in your OWN bodies ladies.....don't blame your donut gorge fest on a fetus!!!!!!!!!!!

It's hard to tell... when I was pregnant I craved milk like crazy but that was the only thing. I drank about a gallon a day until I stopped nursing, and suddenly the cravings completely disappeared. I hardly ever drink it now. Maybe I just really needed the calcium to replace what was being pulled out of my bones to build my little one's bones. It makes sense that what you crave is what you need, but I don't know of any scientific studies to support it. Talk to your doctor, and make sure you're taking your prenatal vitamins!

hmm.. vitamin deficiency.. i neva heard of this before, but old myths say that what you craving for, is what the baby wants to eat.. dun no whether its true or not. But i believe that it is all in the mindset. What you crave for depends on the brain.

apples are good for you, so eat lots of them! that's a good thing to crave. if you can afford organic ones (raised without pesticides, they are better for you and your baby).
I have read that cravings don't really mean a nutritional deficiency, except perhaps pica cravings (strong desire to eat non-food items such as chalk, dirt, sand, or cigarettes, etc). Nutritional deficiences are fairly rare in our society -- we eat too much in fact.
Plus, lot of women "crave" milkshakes, ice cream, chocolate, fries, soda, and junk foods while pregnant, and this doens't mean they have a nutritional deficiency.

Could be some truth to it , but I think don't think you need to worry about it as long as you are taking prenatal vitamins. I craved sour cream on chocolate bars and I doubt that I really needed them (especially combined!) LOL Good luck!

I think it normally means that there's something in that food that your body needs. Are you taking your prenatal vitamins? Maybe the baby just wants some apples :)

Don't think so. I craved M & M's -- what vitamin would I be lacking there? I also craved ice -- again, which vitamin?

They are high in iron and calcium, so it may mean a difficiency in those area's...or you just like the way they taste ! I constantly craved apple pie and pancakes when I was pregnant, and I figured the baby was telling me I needed iron and protein.....so that's what he got ! :)
