why wont my new printer, a hp hewlett packard laserjet 3100, print out color, only black. i just put in a new print cartridge(c3906a)

You might find your answer at the HP support & troublshooting section. If this doesn't help, you might want to contact HP, expecially if your 3100 is still under warranty. There's a "Contact HP" link at the upper left corner.

Did you remember to remove the blue plastic protective film cover before putting the cartridge in? Is the cartridge recognized by your printer maintenance software? If you answered no to either of these, there lies the problem. If you answered yes to both, then there is a good chance that you have not set up something right either in the software, or IE if you are trying to print from the web. There is a setting in both to print gray scale only. Hope this helps

Um, unless it's a "Color" Laserjet it will not print color. All color laserjets have four cartridges not one. So....Does your printer have four cartridges or just one?
